Good Clean Fun!

C-19 is taking a toll on us all;  it’s especially challenging for people living homeless to maintain the social distancing and hygiene practices recommended by the health department. Our thanks to area shelters and to the folks who are creating new hygiene stations and shower programs.

toiletries

New Connections is partnering with the St Leo’s Homeless Workgroup to collect towels, travel sized toiletries, socks, paper products and feminine hygiene products for area hygiene programs that are ongoing and for new ones being set up for our neighbors living homeless. We’ve already begun distributed the toiletries we collected for the 99 stocking project. These donated supplies  came from multiple sources; but, we think our donors will approve of redirecting these resources to a more immediate need. We’ll find a way to replenish the stock before the 2020 holidays.

99 Stockings for 2020

a.k.a. 99 Stockings plus 151 Holiday Gift Bags!

Merry Makers
In 2018, New Connections, and Shelter 253 (a workgroup of the Pierce County Coalition to End Homelessness), set out to create a little holiday cheer for the 99 campers at Tacoma’s Stability Site. Soon the amazing students at Stadium High joined us to make stockings for 41 youth at the Beacon Young Adult Shelter. Then the Hilltop Madrinas offered to make holiday bags for the 60 guest at the Guadalupe Christmas meal. Thanks to all who contributed gift cards & other items, and to those who assembled stockings and bags.

In 2019, many of the same volunteers and groups worked together to create holiday stockings once again. The PNW Insurance Group helped us collect items for the stockings too. Please consider joining the 2020 Merry Makers. We’ll post (and send out) a 2020 flyer in November. Meanwhile, our volunteers managed to secure storage space for us and they are providing ongoing inventory for the project. We can accept donated items anytime; check the 2019 flyer for areas of need (2020 will be similar).
